At the heart of FCA are coaches. Our role is to SERVE you as a Coach.  Whether you coach in college, high school, middle school, club sports or youth leagues, as a coach today, we realize that you have a very difficult job.  There are a lot pressures, hours and sacrifice that you put in on the field and off the field.  And most of the time you are not appreciated or encouraged.  We want to support you!  We are here to SERVE YOU!

Coaches Ministry wants to Encourage you as a coach.
Coaches Ministry wants to Equip you as a coach.
Coaches Ministry wants to Empower you as a coach.

Central MD FCA wants to congratulate Rob Smoot, one of our coaches involved in our FCA Coaches Ministry, for being inducted into the Maryland Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame this past October.

Coach Smoot was a standout wrestler in high school at McDonogh School. He then went on to become a 4 year starter at Duke University and team captain. After finishing college, Coach Smoot returned back to McDonogh and was the head coach of the wrestling team from 1984-1993. Since then he has worked with the middle school, helped head up the JV team, and also assisted with the Varsity team at McDonogh School. With Coach Smoot there, McDonogh School has won the MIAA championship for 4 years and the private school states.

But Coach Smoot is not only making a difference on the mat but off the mat as well in helping build God's Kingdom. Coach has had an active role in our Central MD Coaches Ministry by participating in FCA's Coaches' Studies. He said this recently, "In terms of Jesus, I've always known that He won the biggest "match" by taking our sins upon Himself on the cross. Winning or losing a wrestling match doesn't really compare to what Christ did for us, so this knowledge has always helped me keep sports in perspective." He is a coach trying to help young men not only learn about what it takes to be a champion on the mat in wrestling but about the character and strength it takes to go through the journey of life.

FCA's discipleship process designed specifically for you as a Coach.  It is taken from Romans Chapter 12 which provides a relational profile of an authentic disciple of Christ. Christians who live out this kind of lifestyle are what we call r12 (Romans 12) Christians. Take a moment to read Romans 12, then ask yourself the question…am I r12?

Behind the Bench is a ministry designed to encourage and inspire coaches' wives by helping them grow spiritually and providing them with a sense of community. FCA understands that a coach's wife stands in the background (Behind the Bench) while juggling all the demands of raising a family, maintaining a marriage, working, and being in the public eye while the coach gives tirelessly and sacrificially to help young athletes reach their full potential.
